FCPJ History

The Florida Coalition for Peace & Justice was founded in 1982 and is a non-profit organization comprised of local peace, church and environmental groups in more than fifty Florida cities and towns. Membership is open to individuals as well as groups.

The purpose of the organization is to promote global peace by addressing environmental and social justice issues locally and individually. We do this through educational programs such as conferences, demonstrations, youth peace camps, publication of our newsmagazine Just Peace, and through any other creative non-violent means available.

Albert Einstein said, "You cannot simultaneously prevent and prepare for war." We are in the business of prevention.

To build a statewide grassroots constituency of individuals and organizations dedicated to nonviolence, and social, economic and environmental justice.
To provide information, coordination, support services and leadership to individuals and groups whose objectives are the same as ours.
To disseminate news of events, legislation, and problems in or substantially affecting Florida, through our newsletter, Just Peace, as well as mailings, conferences, demonstrations, press releases and speaking engagements by our State Coordinator and key members.
To develop our Teaching Farm into a model of sustainability, providing the community with hands-on learning about earth stewardship, organic food production, permaculture, solar energy and ecology.
To usher in the next generation of socially and ecologically responsible leaders, through Youth Peace Camps and by hosting weekend retreats, youth campouts and educational workshops.
To help shift the current paradigm from that of self-interest to one that recognizes that the well-being of each is contingent upon the health and well-being of all.
